Blockstream has expanded its hardware wallet lineup with the new Jade Core – a streamlined Bitcoin-only signer designed for users who want to move their bitcoin into self-custody without paying for advanced features they may never use. The device is now available locally through BitcoinVN Shop.
Jade Core keeps private keys isolated from internet-connected devices and signs transactions offline.
Compared with the more advanced Jade Plus, Jade Core leaves out premium features such as the camera, battery and support for air-gapped QR signing. This keeps both the device and the setup simpler while retaining the security most Bitcoin holders actually need.
Jade Core is therefore best suited to first-time hardware wallet users, regular Bitcoin savers and anyone who wants reliable long-term storage without paying extra for advanced features they are unlikely to use.
As always, buying through BitcoinVN Shop means receiving a genuine device locally in Vietnam – without international shipping delays or customs complications.
How is my seed phrase generated?
Following the recent Coldcard seed-generation failure, many hardware wallet users are understandably paying closer attention to how their seed phrase is created.
During setup, Jade Core creates a fresh 12- or 24-word seed phrase directly on the device using its onboard true random number generator. Only you receive the phrase, which should be written down and kept safely offline.
Users can also add an optional passphrase for an additional layer of protection and access to a separate hidden wallet. The device does not store it, so it must be entered each time – and losing it means permanently losing access to that wallet.
A device-generated seed still requires some trust that the hardware and software work as intended. Jade Core reduces this “black box” element by making both fully open source, allowing its design and code to be independently inspected – although open source alone can never guarantee that software contains no bugs.
Advanced users who prefer not to rely solely on the device can instead generate a valid BIP39 seed phrase using private dice rolls, with Jade Core helping to calculate the final word. An existing 12- or 24-word BIP39 phrase can also be imported, although a phrase previously exposed to an ordinary computer should not be considered newly secured simply because it is transferred to a hardware wallet.
Life Savings vs. Daily Driver
Following the Coldcard seed-generation failure, BitcoinVN emphasized an important distinction that we intend to make clearer in our custody communications going forward:
Removing signing capabilities – meaning private keys and seed phrases – from internet-connected devices does, in our observation, prevent the vast majority of common cryptocurrency thefts and is therefore a prudent step. However, a single-signature hardware wallet is not the place or setup in which to store significant parts of your life savings or net worth.

While hardware-wallet seed-generation failures remain rare tail events, you never want such a failure to negatively affect your life for years, decades or even generations to come.
At a certain point, responsible risk management requires moving to a more redundant and secure setup, such as multivendor multisig.
Multivendor Multisig
The term “multivendor multisig” often sounds daunting to those who are not yet familiar with the concept.
In truth, however, multivendor multisig provides a margin of error: you can make mistakes and survive them.
Whether you lose one of the keys, a threat actor gains access to it, or a hardware-wallet manufacturer supplies a device with faulty seed generation – as happened in the recent Coldcard case – a properly configured multivendor multisig setup remains secure because no single key is sufficient to authorize a transaction. The affected key can therefore be calmly replaced. By contrast, if your funds depend on only one key, seed phrase or vendor, any of these failures could result in catastrophic losses.
At a certain level of wealth, implementing multivendor multisig becomes a no-brainer – you do not want your financial future to depend on a single device or manufacturer.
We are not aware of any publicly reported losses among Coldcard users who used an affected device only as one signer in a properly configured multivendor multisig. Because a single compromised key was insufficient to reach the signing threshold, the affected device could be safely rotated out without placing the entire wallet at the mercy of that one signer.
Need further custody guidance?
While all of this can be done on a DIY basis, we understand that some people prefer to go through the process with an experienced hand at their side – especially when the long-term secure self-custody of their coins is concerned. Experienced, professional guidance helps ensure that the setup is initiated correctly and that no avoidable weaknesses are introduced along the way.
For this reason, some of our clients choose to book time with one of our in-house cybersecurity consultants, who can guide them through the initial setup in a secure environment, address any uncertainties and help them avoid common pitfalls. The consultant never needs access to the client’s seed phrases or private keys (no legitimate consultant or support agent will ever ask a client to disclose them).
Buy hardware wallet anonymously?
As the recent – and increasingly frequent – breaches of customer data across the hardware-wallet industry show, privacy at the point of purchase matters. Within only a few days, both: Trezor and SafePal disclosed incidents exposing names, contact details, home addresses and purchase information. While no seed phrases or private keys were compromised, such data is highly valuable to scammers and organized criminals looking for cryptocurrency holders to target.
Once your name and address enter a vendor’s systems, the future security of that data is outside your control – and any database or fulfillment partner only needs to fail once. One basic safety precaution is therefore to avoid associating your real identity or home address with the purchase of a hardware wallet wherever possible.
BitcoinVN Shop offers private cash-purchase options for this purpose. Devices can be collected by prior appointment (we do not operate a walk-in retail location and need to ensure that both the product and a team member are available) at our Saigon headquarters or through our Da Nang showroom partner at ₿itCoffee Da Nang.
Also watch out for upcoming IRL events attended by our team – we usually bring a selection of currently available hardware wallets for direct purchase at the BitcoinVN booth.

Cash for wares, with no customer data collected – because data that does not exist cannot be leaked or sold.
