Tokyo – the world’s most populous city and the original epicenter of global Bitcoin commerce – is seeing a remarkable revival as one of East Asia’s leading Bitcoin hubs.
In Bitcoin’s early years, Tokyo was home to Mt. Gox, the exchange that once handled up to 90% of global Bitcoin trading volume – all operated from a modest office in the Shibuya district.
While those days are long past, the city’s Bitcoin scene is alive again – energized by a mix of grizzled Bitcoin veterans and a new generation of builders and believers, gathering at regular meetups, both social and technical, with hubs like Tokyo Bitcoin Base at the heart of it – working to make Japan a great Bitcoin nation once again.

After supporting the 2024 developer workshop by Base58, BitcoinVN is once again proud to contribute to this renewed momentum – strengthening ties with Japan’s still vast and largely untapped potential for Bitcoin development in East Asia, while reinforcing the exchange of knowledge and collaboration across the region’s Bitcoin communities.

At the heart of Tokyo’s revival stands Tokyo Bitcoin Base (TBB) – one of Asia’s few physical community hubs dedicated entirely to Bitcoin. It has become a gathering point for local developers and visiting Bitcoiners alike, hosting regular events, displaying historical memorabilia (including one of the official Satoshi Statues #3), and promoting Bitcoin adoption from the ground up.
This year, TBB will host “Dev Day” as a key side event of Bitcoin Japan 2025 – with BitcoinVN joining as the official coffee sponsor.

Vietnam, after all, is the land of coffee in an Asian context.
While a direct supply route from our trusted suppliers in Vietnam to our Bitcoin friends in Japan hasn’t yet been established, it’s firmly on our radar for future collaborations – combining two things we value deeply: Bitcoin and coffee, both tools that help us move faster and build stronger in their own unique ways.

While the Tokyo Bitcoin Meetup is among the longest-running in the world, the city itself has also re-emerged as a regional hub – now home to the Asian or global headquarters of major Bitcoin firms such as Mempool.space, Blockstream, and Fulgur Ventures.

Among Bitcoiners in Japan and across East Asia, there’s a growing sense that Japan – with its deep engineering culture, long-term mindset, and business traditions spanning centuries – still holds vast, untapped potential to contribute to Bitcoin’s global development.
As such, it is our honour to once again support the efforts of the dedicated individuals driving Japan’s Bitcoin community – laying the groundwork to turn that potential into reality, one meaningful step at a time.
