In this expert interview, we break down his journey, Branta Labs\u2019 work, and the future of Bitcoin payments.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

BitcoinVN News: When and how did you first discover Bitcoin? Was there a specific moment when it truly clicked for you?<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Keith Gardner: <\/b>WIRED\u2019s coverage of Ross\/Silk Road was probably the first time I heard of Bitcoin. I was never particularly drawn towards economic theory. To be very honest, I don\u2019t care at all about theory.<\/p>\n

But, at some point, it hit me I needed to learn economics to stay afloat.<\/p>\n

Progressing a career in the US opens up a lot of questions – why are the financial systems so elaborate? Do they need to be? How much does it cost to produce a nickel? Are nickels worth producing? Why don\u2019t we call Mortgages by their real name, Death Bonds?<\/p>\n

A major tell that something is wrong is complexity. Fiat is purposefully complex.<\/p>\n

The purity of Silk Road was beautiful. I never used the site, but the idea was powerful, and a clear illustration of product-market-fit.<\/p>\n

Later, Saif\u2019s writing put everything together. The computer science part is much less interesting, in my opinion.<\/p>\n

\"Keith<\/p>\n

BitcoinVN News: What led you to start Branta Labs? What pain points were you aiming to address?<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Keith: <\/b>I set out to contribute to hyperbitcoinization in an open lane. I felt there were lots of great products around Store of Value, but less around Medium of Exchange.<\/p>\n

Even in 2025, on most platforms, you can\u2019t even verify recipient.<\/p>\n

Bitcoin is a push system. You push your money to a destination. If you get that wrong, game over.<\/p>\n

Simple things like phishing\/spoofing were still happening all the time. I thought: \u201cWhy? Lets get rid of that.\u201d<\/p>\n

BitcoinVN News: How has the journey been so far? What has adoption looked like, and where do you see things heading?<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Keith: <\/b>One thing that surprised me was how small the Industry is. And how few business models are actually operating and profitable. We\u2019ll be able to share a lot more later this year, Branta adoption is going up and to the right. We\u2019re very bullish on medium of exchange, and enabling open lanes for commerce.<\/p>\n

Bitcoin and Lightning are changing everything. The train is not stopping, its speeding up.<\/p>\n

This is a far out opinion. But; if we could have a future WITH sound money (BTC), and WITHOUT computers, I think that might be ideal. Its something to think about. I hope the youth study Nikola Tesla. Why was his work suppressed so heavily?<\/p>\n

BitcoinVN News: What\u2019s your outlook for 2025 and beyond?<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Keith:<\/b>\u00a0I expect more jurisdictions to clean up their regulation. Fusing Bitcoin with fiat capital markets is going to be hot.<\/p>\n

Naturally, Medium of Exchange will be central. Its obvious that AIs and Humans will be using Bitcoin\/LN. Underlooked areas like gaming, film, television may surprise us.<\/p>\n

I think some wild cards are tapping stranded energy. Quantum. Miner centralization is annoying. ETF in-kind redemption would be huge.<\/p>\n

Obviously, politics are shifting fast. This is actually just a reflection of deeper changes. Moneys, tech, even the human spirit.<\/p>\n

BitcoinVN News:<\/b> Beyond Branta, which three technologies, protocols, or projects in the Bitcoin space are you currently most excited or curious about?<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Keith:\u00a0<\/b>I\u2019d love to get rid of advertisements.<\/p>\n

I\u2019d love to have 0 subscriptions, and stream Value-for-value.<\/p>\n

I\u2019d love to never pay for parking with a credit card\/KYC.<\/p>\n

I\u2019d love to see all EMs; Wi-Fi, 5G, 4G, 3G, AM, FM, XM radio; only turn on when used.<\/p>\n

I hope HTTP 402, NWC, and BOLT 12 usher this in.<\/p>\n

BitcoinVN News: As a relatively new founder yourself, what advice would you give to other entrepreneurs looking to enter the space? Where do you see the biggest opportunities? What common mistakes should they avoid?<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Keith: <\/b>Its counterintuitive, but you cannot found anything without health. Health is the battery you pull everything from. Fix your biology before you try to contribute. The caveat is that health can look very different between people. But you cannot build anything meaningful without a large store of energy.<\/p>\n

In terms of opportunities, I\u2019d say this. Understand Bitcoin. Then look away from it. Look at the existing world, and start the creative-destructive process on everything suboptimal. And nail the execution.<\/p>\n

Finally, have kids this evening. Business problems will seem like a joke.<\/p>\n

BitcoinVN News: <\/b>On your journey building Branta, who are the three most inspiring people you\u2019ve learned from or taken advice from?<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Keith: <\/b>I\u2019m a vibe person. Dorsey is way up there. John from Zaprite has done fantastic work. I really like Skot\u2019s BitAxe project. Haven\u2019t met all the Ocean guys, but I think that project is critical. There\u2019s a lot of players behind the scene facilitating things, too. Does Donald Trump count? (Thanks for letting Ross out and not killing our Industry, D.)<\/p>\n
