The recent announcement by Cryptocurrency Exchange Binance to extend its \u201cmonitoring tag\u201d (indicating a potential delisting) to <\/span>Monero<\/span><\/a>, the world\u2019s favourite privacy coin, has caused a lot of uncertainty with Monero investors.<\/span><\/p>\n

But what are the consequences of such action for Monero and its users?<\/span><\/p>\n

First of all:<\/span><\/p>\n

Monero will continue to work as usual<\/b><\/h2>\n

For Monero users a potential delisting by Binance has zero impact.<\/span><\/p>\n

You can use the <\/span>Monero network and your own wallet<\/span><\/a> as usual.<\/span><\/p>\n

You can\u2019t use Binance anymore in case the delisting goes ahead, but you should not use centralized exchanges to <\/span>store your digital assets<\/span><\/a> in any case.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBut won\u2019t the price of Monero dump?!?\u201d<\/b><\/h2>\n

This is indeed a very real possibility.<\/span><\/p>\n

BUT: Not a certainty!<\/span><\/p>\n

While there is plenty of evidence that the delisting of coins from ever more platforms will lead to a lack of access and liquidity, leading to dwindling interest and capital flows into the cryptocurrencies affected by it <\/span>(think for example: Counterparty or – on the opposing side of the \u201clegitimate\u201d spectrum: BitcoinSV)…<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

\u2026there is also the \u201cconspiracy theory\u201d that a cabal of big exchanges in connection with whale traders and\/or \u201cbig government\u201d have been running a clandestine operation to suppress the Monero price due to the introduction of an unlimited number of <\/span>\u201cpaper Monero\u201d<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

It is by now well-established that this very mechanism has been used by the masters of the universe to suppress the price of gold:<\/span><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Concentrate physical gold with centralized custodians<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. The trading volume of \u201cpaper gold\u201d consequentially dwarfs the trading volume of physical gold around the world<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. The pricing power is established firmly within the centralized trading platforms<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    If the demand for Monero from real users is large enough, the pricing power (and that is the hope and belief of many \u201cMonero maximalists\u201d and adjunct sympathizers) will indeed shift back to P2P markets.<\/span><\/p>\n

    And a disappearance of the \u201cpaper Monero\u201d issued by centralized database providers such as exchanges will result in a corresponding drastic reduction in Monero supply.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Given how many so-called \u201cconspiracy theories\u201d over the past few years turned out to be simple plain and harsh reality:<\/span><\/p>\n

    \u201cThe Monero price sucked for years – why would it change now?!\u201d<\/b><\/h2>\n

    A statement made by a speculator rather than a user.<\/span><\/p>\n

    If you are just in it to make quick profits, then there are quite possibly other more attractive tools out there.<\/span><\/p>\n

    And no, we don\u2019t have a tip which one the \u201chot coin of the month\u201d is.<\/span><\/p>\n

    \u201cMonero is a currency and not an investment!\u201d<\/b><\/h2>\n

    \u2026is a position by more hardcore users in the Monero camp.<\/span><\/p>\n

    And there are good arguments for this position to be made:<\/span><\/p>\n

    Monero\u2019s primary purpose is to be the most private and untraceable internet money in existence.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Hated by the surveillance state – and loved by freedom- & privacy-loving anon users.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Monero is not optimized for \u201chodling\u201d or playing a role as \u201cstore of value\u201d – but meant to flow and enable digital commerce with minimal traces.<\/span><\/p>\n

    \u201cThe Monero community does not have critical mass to sustain current price levels!\u201d<\/b><\/h2>\n

    Well, we don\u2019t know about that.<\/span><\/p>\n

    What we can say however is that by qualitative (our interaction with Monero users and the Monero community) and <\/span>quantitative observation<\/span><\/a> the Monero user base seems by far one of the most active across the entire \u201ccryptocurrency\u201d complex.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Actually using Monero and the software rather than clicking <\/span>buy<\/span><\/a> and <\/span>sell<\/span><\/a> buttons on exchanges.<\/span><\/p>\n
