While after the joyous event of Bali last month we were all already looking forward to the next gathering in South East Asia, the organizers behind “Beyond Lightning 2024” ended the week with a damper for Bitcoiners in Vietnam.
The eagerly anticipated second edition of the Bitcoin purist gathering in Da Nang,.which saw last year the come-together of “big name” Bitcoiners.from overseas such as Jimmy Song, Liz Stark and Peter Todd as well as all the regional.Bitcoin key players and enthusiasts, WILL NOT TAKE PLACE.
In the announcement published on the Bitcoin Saigon community page,.as the key reasons behind this decision were mentioned the outsized workload.of organizing an event at such scale and quality while more often than not having to take.a financial loss to keep the event pure from “extractive shitcoinery”.
Neutronpay Founder and CEO Albert Buu:
“I regret to announce that we will not be able to host our much-anticipated Bitcoin Lightning.Conference in Vietnam this year. This decision, though difficult, is made with the best interests.of our community and supporters in mind. However, we are excited and fully committed to making the 2025.edition of the conference a landmark event. We at Neutronpay appreciate your understanding and continuous support, and look forward to exploring the endless possibilities of Bitcoin Lightning together in 2025.”
While “sad news” for the domestic Bitcoiners, it allows them to focus their travel resources on heading on over to the Bitcoin events in Bangkok and Bali which are both poised to take place again in 2024.
The organizers ended their note with “maybe we’re back for more in Vietnam by 2025” – so there remains the possibility that also Vietnam’s shores will be graced once more by a proper Bitcoin event from Bitcoiners for Bitcoiners.
