How did we end up here that people sent billions of dollars of their savings to \u201ctrusted third parties\u201d to let them hold their money for it?<\/span><\/p>\n

Satoshi – an ardent student of monetary history and its failures across the millenia – <\/span>presciently foresaw these very same issues back in early 2009<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n

The root problem with conventional currency is all the trust that’s required to make it work. The central bank must be trusted not to debase the currency, but the history of fiat currencies is full of breaches of that trust. Banks must be trusted to hold our money and transfer it electronically, but they lend it out in waves of credit bubbles with barely a fraction in reserve. We have to trust them with our privacy, trust them not to let identity thieves drain our accounts.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Human nature tells us very clearly that you can\u2019t trust other humans with the cookie jar.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Over time the cookie jar will get emptied\u2026 and when you want to receive your cookie back which you deposited in, you might find out that it\u2019s long gone and the cookie you thought you had ended up in somebody else\u2019s tummy a long time ago.<\/span><\/p>\n
