It has been a good year since the venture arm of our firm invested in <\/span>Keith Gardner\u2019s Branta<\/span><\/a>, our first investment into a company focused on cyber defense and fraud prevention for digital asset transfers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As we have outlined previously – and continue to emphasize – we expect the following trends\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Ever more wealth will be stored digitally, and ever more monetary payments will be conducted through digital channels.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Increasingly capable tools will continue to become available to cyber threat actors globally, further expanding the risks faced by individuals, businesses and financial service providers.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    will persist for years to come.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    This means that demand for Cybersecurity, professionals, tooling and their expertise will remain in a strong bull market for years to come.<\/span><\/p>\n

    While the rising threat landscape is nothing to be \u201ccelebrated\u201d, it is also a reality we have to deal with – and continuing to invest in defense in this arms race is a must-do, whether we like this new reality or not.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Keith\u2019s team – as previously outlined – is heavily dedicated towards making the payments experience a safer one and catching \/ stopping fraudulent payment approvals BEFORE they hit the blockchain, at which point the recovery of funds quickly becomes extremely difficult to impossible.<\/span><\/p>\n

    BV Insight:<\/b> Keith, good to catch up! What have been some of the biggest developments for Branta this year, and which achievements are you most proud of?<\/span><\/p>\n

    Keith Gardner:<\/b> The company feels almost unrecognizable since the New Year. The number of platforms running Branta grew exponentially – for both sending and receiving digital assets. Bitcoin Magazine covered Manna becoming the first Branta-Enabled-Wallet, here: https:\/\/bitcoinmagazine.com\/business\/manna-wallet-branta-guardrails-self-custodial-bitcoin-payments-now-show-verified-merchant-details<\/a>. The company also started working with Remittance providers, a new segment for us.<\/p>\n

    Aside from partnerships, the team deployed zero knowledge architecture for the Lightning Network. This was a strong testament to how seriously we take privacy, both operationally and for the users sake. Also an important step for keeping a uniform experience and privacy posture across different payment rails.<\/p>\n

    The combination of Branta-Enabled-Wallets for sending, plus zero-knowledge, enabled us to cleanly mirror some of the TradFi features people know and love – verified brand metadata on user wallets, before send, in payment history, and powering searchable receipts. Branta SDKs in 6+ languages now power a variety of wallets. Below is snapshot of the Branta Network from the end of H1 2026, featuring prominent players in the space such as ArkLabs, Second.tech, and Zaprite.<\/p>\n

    \"\"<\/p>\n

    BV Insight: <\/b>In 2026, the rapid advancement of AI capabilities has dramatically changed the cyber threat landscape. What specific trends do you see emerging, how should individuals and businesses respond, and what is your overall outlook for the cybersecurity industry?<\/span><\/p>\n

    Keith Gardner: <\/b>Attacks used to be expensive, but now they are cheap. Everytime you minimize the cost to attack, attacks will increase because the incentive for success remains high from a monetary standpoint. Accessibility to AI enables the same phishing, address swaps, and impersonation that once took a skilled operator to be generated at scale by anyone. For individuals and businesses, I believe that digital security will be of the utmost importance due to this and they need secure protocols that protect their interests.<\/p>\n

    This aligns with my overall outlook for the cybersecurity industry. As more people transact online, there will continue to be ongoing novel threats. Find me an incentive, I will show you the outcome. In this case, as transaction volume increases coupled with decreasing cost to initiate attacks, more attacks will occur.<\/p>\n

    Platforms that partner with defensive infra providers ahead of time will remain at an advantage.<\/p>\n

    BV Insight: <\/b>In the fall of 2025, the NPM supply-chain attack shook the wider industry, revealing the shaky security foundations on which much of today\u2019s digital infrastructure – including financial infrastructure – is built. How was Branta positioned to respond to such a threat, and how could your solutions help protect both consumers and businesses in similar scenarios?<\/span><\/p>\n

    Keith Gardner: <\/b>That attack was a reminder that most software trusts its dependencies completely, so one poisoned package can quietly and easily rewrite what a user sees, and specifically the address they are about to pay.<\/p>\n

    \"\"<\/p>\n

    Branta was built for exactly that failure in mind. We verify the recipient independently and surface branding inside the wallet, so even if malicious software tried to swap an attacker’s address, the payment screen would no longer match Branta metadata. The user would then be notified prior to sending over any funds. Branta\u2019s solution adds an extra layer that any potential attack must conquer.<\/p>\n

    BV Insight: <\/b>Many cybersecurity products seek to improve security by collecting ever more data on their users, effectively creating large honeypots of sensitive information in the process. Branta appears to be taking the opposite approach through its Zero-Knowledge architecture. Can you tell us more about the architectural design choices behind this approach, and the philosophy that led you there?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    Keith Gardner:<\/b> We decided to be idempotent from day one. Scaling an information-heavy platform was never in the cards. If I were to be colorful with words – I\u2019d reference \u201cstateless,\u201d \u201ctransparent,\u201d \u201crotational\u201d and \u201cephemeral.\u201d<\/p>\n

    Branta is so lightweight on data and analytics, that most people are shocked when they dive deeper into the operational model. We\u2019re spending more time in articulating just how private Branta is here: https:\/\/www.branta.pro\/your-data<\/a><\/p>\n

    Ultimately, Branta verifies counterparty addresses without knowing counterparty addresses.<\/p>\n

    The user ends up winning. The ecosystem ends up winning. And our company has less exposure.<\/p>\n

    \"\"<\/p>\n

    BV Insight: <\/b>What does a “Bitcoin engineering” mindset entail for you, and how would you define it?<\/span><\/p>\n

    Keith Gardner:<\/b> I like to think of it like this. Before bitcoin, computing didn\u2019t have a strong tether to physical reality. You could do whatever you want and get away with it. Carelessness.\u00a0 Post-Bitcoin, there is a strong tie to physical reality, 3D space, reality. It feels as if Bitcoin brought Newton’s laws into compute – for every action, an equal and opposite reaction.<\/p>\n

    Dismiss privacy? Immediate repercussions.<\/p>\n

    Invoice tampering? Permanent loss.<\/p>\n

    Bad seed entropy? Chaos.<\/p>\n

    The punishments are way harsher. Responsibility demands are way higher. Thoughtfulness on design, privacy, etc must rise.<\/p>\n

    A positive direction which demands rigor at the most foundational level.<\/p>\n

    BV Insight: <\/b>What’s next for Branta? Are there any upcoming developments, product releases or milestones that you can already share with our readers?<\/span><\/p>\n

    Keith Gardner: <\/b>There\u2019s a ton coming. Branta is currently at 0.001% of the full vision. We are focused on blending security with delight – unique but powerful. We released https:\/\/www.branta.pro\/preview<\/a> recently. We\u2019re expanding support for more runtimes and helping more platforms plugin to Branta to experience safer, faster growth. Zero-Knowledge unlocks our next product, Branta Connect, which we\u2019ll be talking about more soon.<\/p>\n

    Ultimately, we want to 10X the current UX of best in class fiat products (Think Venmo, Plaid), but for native bitcoin. This reality is way closer than more people realize.<\/p>\n
